    Re: 56 Engine Intake Overspray/Coverage

    John,

In your picture posted above on a similar thread, the bell housings were not attached as the engines were stacked on the racks. That's why I asked the question. Perhaps it was only the Corvette engines and not the passenger car engines that were painted without bell housings? Perhaps it was '55? Just trying to do the right thing on my car. I can easily paint the bolt heads while the body is off.

    Thanks,
    Mark

Mark, I think you may be confused, the automatic engines appear to be without a bell housing. But the std shift engines had flywheel, clutch, & bellhousing attached & painted at Flint. I have some pics of my engine before restoration, they show painted bellhousing, a circle of paint,on back of flywheel (overspray shot thru empty starter opening). If you can give me your e-mail, I will send them. I can't figure how to post pics on Board yet. Good luck Barry Holmes #940

Likely pass car auto trans engines in the picture.

            John,
I'd love to see your pictures. Please send to mark.kaylene@comcast.net
I've just never seen pictures of manual transmission engines. The only ones I've ever seen posted are automatic transmission cars. I would appreciate you sharing your information with me. Thanks for the advice.

One more question, it appeared that there was some overspray onto the bell housing from when the transmission was painted black in Noland Adams book. Any knowledge as to whether they were painted separately or not?

            Thaks again!

              Mark -

The manual transmissions (Saginaw 3-speed and B-W T-10) weren't painted - they were natural "as-cast" iron or aluminum. Some got a good shot of chassis blackout at St. Louis prior to body drop, some didn't.
