These pistons are in a 63 FI 327 that I tore down. They appear to have low miles on them and I was going to reuse them if they are equal to the original pistons. Any information on these would be appreciated.

Re: TRW L2211 pistons
Those are high compression (16.8 cc, .380" dome for the standard bore version), 1/16" compression ring "racing pistons" that give a nominal CR of about 12.75:1 with .025" deck clearance and .035" gasket. IMO they are unsuitable for a road engine - too much compression and too thin rings, but I suppose if they "worked" prior to teardown you can reuse them, however, I don't see how they could not cause severe detonation with the thickest available head gasket unless the domes were knocked down.
The OE replacement pistons are L2166-XX, 5.3 cc .125" dome, machined for conventional 5/64" compression rings.
It would take two .050" head gaskets to get the CR range down to what the CR originally was with the Flint-installed double .018" gaskets if the domes were not reduced.

Re: TRW L2211 pistons
Scott,
I have a set of these same pistons that came from my 63 engine. The engine was apart and had the weak early style rods so I can't imagine how this engine ran.
If you are rebuilding, get new pistons with the correct dome height and do the job right. I am sure these domes can be turned down but by the time you finish new pistons may be cheeper.- Top
