    66 BB half shaft finish

I am restoring a 66 bb coupe. I recently sent my half shaft out to quanta to be refinished. They came back in better shape than I expected and have a shinny finish (they were cast blasted paint by previous owner to replicate a finish, looked bad).
Upon further reseach I read they should have a shot blast finish.
What is the diffrence in appearence, if there is one??
Also when I contacted Quanta to ask if the blast appearence was available. They were unaware of any different finish than what I recieved.
So is there a big difference between shot finish and the shinny finish that Quanta offers. (why haven't they heard of this before)
Is there a point deducution or am I over reacting.
They really look nice and I was satified with the service but would like to do the job just once.
    thanks in advance
sorry if this was addressed b4

    Bill,

If you do a quick search, I think that this question was asked within the last 1-2 weeks. I also provided a link to a slightly older thread which had pictures.

I'm surprised that Quanta did not know there was a surface finish difference between big block and small block half-shafts. Big block half-shafts were shot-peened; small block half shafts were not. The big block finish was a dull gray with a VERY slightly non-smooth, "peened" appearance.

Actually, it's much easier to reproduce the original big block finish than it is to reproduce the small block finish. You can take them to any local shop that provides shot peening service using very small size shot. Just be sure to protect the u-joint cap contact surfaces (e.g. install scrap caps prior to shot peening).
