66 Bb Spark Plug Wire Installation.

I recently purchased a new set of 66 BB reproduction shielded spark plug wires from Lectric Limited. The set comes with installation instructions which give exact lengths for each wire in the set of 8. These plug wires are designed to fit exactly as from the factory. The instructions say to be sure to connect the correct length wire to the correct cylinder using the correct ignition shield brackets and the correct holes in the rubber wire guides.
They include a chart which uses the words: "Wire NO: 1, 34 inches", wire NO: 2, 31 inches, Wire NO: 3, 31 inches, Wire NO:4, 27 inches, Wire NO: 5, 22 inches, Wire NO: 6, 25 inches, Wire NO: 7, 22 inches, Wire NO: 8, 21 inches."
I know some of you have done this before, so before I guess and make a mistake , could someone please confirm that the words "WIRE NO" actually mean "CYLINDER NO" ....and that the 34 inch plug wire actually goes to CYLINDER NO: 1 and so on....
Thanks for saving me having to do this by trial and error.
Now I just have to hope my Distributor is installed/positioned correctly in the block.

Looking at the wire lengths and the cylinder locations, I would say you have the correct interpretation

Rick -- Maybe not as simple as that. I also have a sheet of repro instructions (titled "1320"); posssibly L.Ltd.(?), although their name doesn't appear. If the same as yours, you'll notice that wires # 2 & 3 are the same length (31.0"). Also #'s 5 & 7 (22.0"). But the radio shielding weave is not the same length at the distributor end, depending on whether the terminal goes in a hole on the near or far side of the distributor. This results in 8 different wires (either by length or shielding length, or both). However, in the '65 L78 AIM (all I have), there are only SIX different part #'s for the 8 wires; (go figure ).

        Gentlemen,

Thanks for the help. I have now determined that my current Distributor position has terminals 5 and 6 at the position I should have 3 and 6. How or what is the best method to turn the Distributor to the right (looking at it from the front of the car) to achieve the correct position of terminals 3 and 6. Will I then have to adjust timing again?? Thanks for all the detailed instructions....I am a novice at this and really don't want to mess with it unless I'm sure I understand the procedures entirely.

          Rick,

Do you have transistor ignition (TI)? The following procedure is for a points type distributor, but most of it would apply to TI as well:

          http://www.lbfun.com/warehouse/tech_...stallation.pdf

Do you have a shop manual? That would be helpful.

          Good luck.

          Joe

            Joe,

            Thanks for the info....

No TI....and yes I have ALL the manuals....just worried about not getting it right....especially the timing part before I start it up and just after repositioning the distributor.....thanks.
