I have attached three pictures of the area under my cars gas tank. I know the spot where the gas line from the tank goes through needs to be fixed so it looks like the opposite side. (rectangular shape with two separate holes) And I'm pretty sure the three holes in the middle are supposed to be there. But how about the other two holes, one on each side, that are half round and half square? They look original, are they? There are also two holes on the back side of where the gas tank cover goes. I am guessing those need to be filled in.

Re: 1958 Gas Tank Comparment Holes
I have attached three pictures of the area under my cars gas tank. I know the spot where the gas line from the tank goes through needs to be fixed so it looks like the opposite side. Dennis, referrencing my '57, the oval hole on the right (two individual round holes with the connecting web removed) is correct as is (except for the notch to the outside), the web needs to be removed to provide clearance for the fuel line to exit; left side is OK, two individual large holes; center on mine also has two large holes, three smaller holes would serve the same ventilating function. The two holes in the front of the tank well are for the front end of the tank hold down straps. What you see is a round hole with the strap bracket visible on the bottom side. Two holes behind the cover are access to the top of the rear shocks and get some kind of seal to cover the hole (mine got masking tape). Check the archives or your AIM on this, it was discussed fairly recently. Hope this helps.- Top
