Fan for 1969 L46 3955182?

This should be near the last crazy part hunt on my car; at least for a bit.

1983 catalog shows 3955182 which shows many applications.

So what is correct on my car (no AC, no PS) assuming the 83 catalog is off base again?

And second; when if any in 69 was a none clutch fan used maybe in conjunction with spacer 3947132?

On the 69 Pontiacs; heater car only (no AC) came without the clutch set up and there is this on Ebay which made me curious when this none clutch was used.

To kill three birds with one stone; these highlighted pulleys are the ones found on my car, of course not to say they were the originals but there is a the chance. The only trace of the part numbers on the pulleys I could find were in this 70 assembly manual; the 69 manual was no where near close.

So would it be anyone's opinion that these may be correct for my 11/28 built car?

As well there is a clutched fan in the pic; not that it means anything.

1969 L-46 without C-60 were usually equipped with 5 blade fan GM #3888366. I know, for sure, that at least one early 1969 L-46 without C-60 used that fan since I have a friend who is the original owner of his so-equipped car. I would not rule out the possibility, though, that some 1969 L-46 without C-60 were originally equipped with the 7 blade 3955182. The fans are in every way functionally interchangeable.

The 3955182 also replaced the 3888366 for SERVICE in April, 1971. That's why the 1983 P&A Catalog shows it for the 1969 application.

I don't think that any 1969 L-46 were ever built without a fan clutch. Some folks who became frustrated with fan clutch problems CONVERTED their cars to non-fan clutch configuration but I don't think that any were delivered from the factory that way. In fact, GMSPO once sold parts to make the conversion.

Every example of the 3955182 that I have seen, including several that I have, has had that part number stamped on one of the blades.

When I get to a point; I'll blast it up a little in fine sand and see what turns up.

I think the pulley configuration and pullies for 1970 LT-1 (pictured in AIM excerpt above) is the same for 1969 L-46.

Steve: I don't know about your L-46 application, but if you search the archives for 3955182 you'll fund a host of discussions on that part number. Joe L. and a couple of other members were MOST helpful in my questions and searches for this exact fan...Regards...joe

A quick side question, where are these stamped? It looks like I may have a replacement fan on my L46 which surprises me as all of my pulleys were correct.

All I can find is "Front" "H" and "66" stamped on the front.

"W" on one of the rear legs.

Every example I have seen of the GM #3888366 fan blade assembly has had the "FRONT", "H", and "66" stamped on it. I think there was a "W" on them as well, but my recollection is fuzzy on that point. They have NO stampings on the blades. This description includes both PRODUCTION and NOS SERVICE examples

Now if Joe's friends example is an early 69 L46, and mine is a very late (18th before last) it's safe to say the 3888366 ran the entire production run when equipped without AC or Power brakes.

Not to say they weren't substituted, but It sounds to me like you should be looking for the 5 blade 366.
