    1970 Bb Vacuum Tubes

I'm looking for some pics of the vacuum advance tubes and location of the TCS solenoid for my 70 454. I want to return the system to it's original configuration as the system was changed by someone over the years ie TCS solenoid etc removed. I have a TCS unit and the rubber lines. I've also purchased the hard lines from a vendor, but they just don't seem right.

Any help will be appreciated either through pic, references or any other resource. I did get info from Dr Rebuild, but their lines don't match the pic
in their catalog. Lastly, I know the car would probably run better w/o the system, but we're almost done w/ a body off and shooting for the Oct. Jenkintown meet for judging. Tx Joe

Tx so much for the fantastic pictures. They'll be a great aid in helping me finish my project. Were you able to find the clip? that attaches the wire that goes to the switch on the trans? If not, what did you use?

Not sure which clip you are referring to. Do you mean the plastic connector to the trans TCS switch? If so, the original is still there. The clip for the TCS tubing on the intake manifold is also still there. You can see it in the original photos I sent. The system works as its supposed to with RPM changes with shift into 3rd and 4th at idle indicating vacuum advance coming on/off.

Hey Jordan. Does the car you have pictured have p/s or p/b? If not, anyway you can post pics of the pulleys? My 1970 454 4 speed has no power anything, and I have a triple pulley on the water pump. I can't see any signs of this thing ever having ac, ps, or pb, but the water pump most certainly was replaced at least once. Thanks.

I have power steering, no power brakes. The pulley on the alternator is not correct. I have a correct repro which I'll be installing when I rebuild my "more correct" alternator. The water pump pulley is a 3 groove and 2 groove crank pulley.

Thanks alot Jordan. I see the third groove on your water pump pulley is not used (like mine) as well. I thought I may have had a replacement pulley, but I think it's okay.

FYI. There was an 1100900 alternator, dated 9M1 on ebay a while back that didn't sell. I still have the link the seller if you are interested. For the record, and the moderators of the board, it's not me or anything like that.

I saw that one. Date was too early for me and the finish didn't look right. I also couln't be sure its not a restamp. For the money they were asking, it should be a show condition piece. Isn't it unfortunate that 1970 dated parts are at such a premium compared to 69 and 71?!

Tell me about the prices! Oouch! I have slowly spent an amount greater than the GDP of most small nations with an alternator, carb, starter, and a water pump.

                      Jordan,

I noticed that your PS pump pulley doesn't quite line up with the other pulleys. My '70 454 is the same exact way. I've been pulling my hair out trying to get it straight but it just won't go. Do you have the original PS pump brackets? Have you ever thrown a belt?

Tom I think your problem is your pulley on your alternator. My big block 70 has a pulley that has a groove that is spaced out one groove thickness and it lines up perfectly. I saw one in paragon's catalog. Hope this helps

I have the original brackets. As stated above, I think this is a pulley issue. i have the repro from paragon which spaces the groove forward. Haven't put it on yet. Haven't had any issues with the belt so far but haven't really driven much. Doing the rearend resto.

                            Jordan,

I saw the pictures you posted with the three groove pulley. I agree that your alternator pulley is not correct. It should have a spacer at the alternator side that moves the pulley closer to the radiator and then that first groove will align with the alternator belt.

I believe the ps pump belt is driven by the outward lower pulley and the second groove of the water pump. The alternator belt goes from the first pulley on the water pump over the outer groove of the ps pump and to the alternator.

I am posting pictures of mine, I believe it is correct but I will wait for any comments.

Ken, your setup is exactly like mine. The pulleys line up perfectly. Hope this helps.
