    1967 Feb 6 convertible with body S5354?

There is a nice looking 1967 convertible on ebay at:

I notice that the VIN number 9995 corresponds to the first week of February, and the trim tag date is February 6. What surprises me is that the body number is S5354, which would seem to be much later than February 6.

I see in the trim tag book that that there was an AO Smith strike in January, but the duration of that strike is not given. Even with no production at AO Smith and extra production at St. Louis for January, it's hard to see how St. Louis could have reached the 5354th convertible body by Feb 6.

Has anyone ever attempted to compile estimated month-end body serial numbers, similar to what the JG has for VIN numbers?

Joe, I've done some informal survey work, looking at 67s available for sale online (eBay and many other sources). I've found some trim tags that are ABSOLUTELY out of sequence and appear to be fakes. (body build date AFTER the assembly of the car by multiple months.

At the same time, I've found some irregularities that aren't as easily explained. For example, I just saw a car very close to mine (about 60 cars away) that had a body NUMBER that was not in line, HOWEVER, the body build date was spot on. I'm assuming the factory didn't do FIFO on the bodies when they came from St. Louis or A.O. Smith. That is the only way I can explain irregularities in the alignment between VIN and body NUMBER, while maintaining everything else (body build date, tank sticker numbers, etc).

Joe --- I'm no '67 expert, but I was under the impression that Ionia was on strike for several months prior to January 1967, and that meant that virtually all Corvettes produced in the first half of the production run were S-bodies (with exception of a small run of A-bodies at SOP, produced before the Ionia strike began).

If you assume all bodies were "S" to that point, and take same ratio coupe/convertibles as at EOP, then the VIN to S-body number jives to within a couple of hundred VINs (ie. you'd expect this body # to be on car # 09100 approx., or close enough, then adding in about 1000 A-bodies of both styles in the fall of 1966 to get to 9995). Also, The G6 body tag agrees with birthday calculators for 6th Feb; this was the norm on a high percentage of S-bodies, at least for those produced earlier in the day.

      Also, in Noland's Vol 2., there's a close '67 convertible (page 49) VIN 12408 with body S6155.

I have images of the VIN and trim tags of the convertible that was two units ahead of that one on the line (VIN 9993), and it's body #S-5353; lines up nicely.

                Joe,

The description says it has its original 3810 carb. But the pictures show a correctly dated 3367 for a 66.
