Cheap enough I'll chech it out and deal with the seal and pick up part as needed.

Oh, what about the main cap mounted baffle, was that LT1 only as well and nothing was used on the 69 L46?

Corvette Central has all the cap parts; I just need to know if my app used it.
    Steve-----

No external baffle was used for 1969 L-46. So, you don't need a baffle or the special main bearing cap studs.

The 1969 L-46 is generally described as "high performance" (HP) and not "special high performance" (SHP). The 1983 P&A catalog excerpt you posted has multiple application errors on the line you hi-lited. First of all, there was no "SHP" for the 1969 model year. There was supposed to be as the LT-1 was scheduled for 1969 model year introduction, but never released for that model year. Nevertheless, some references to 1969 SHP (i.e. LT-1) have "crept" into the P&A Catalogs.

Second, the 3820001 (or, 1976 era replacement GM #359942) was not used for all 1970-71 LT-1's. It was used only for early 1970 LT-1 without N-40 and all ZR-1 (described in the P&A Catalogs as "SHP with HD 4 speed"). It was not used for any 1971 LT-1 except ZR-1. The same held true for 1972.

Amazing all the little twist involved with these cars.

Thanks again Joe! I am well on my way to having all the parts I need.

        Update

I got the pan today in shipping; threw it straight in the vat here at work and cleaned it a bit. It will take about an hour of pad scrubbing and one pin hole to patch; straighten the gasket rails, and paint.

I only had time at lunch to figure out my pick up screen on the motor will not work with the pan, so I ordered one of the 3830080 still available here from GM at $11 to see if that will work.

I'll try to figure out this front seal business tonight.

Cleaned up and painted; I still have to repair the pin hole but that's not big deal.

But I am still stumped on the quart thing

Pictured in mid air is a basic stock pan that I have always considered a 5 quart pan; compared to on the motor you can see there is a definite larger oil collection area that may well be close to an additional quart. Is this more of actually half quart differences? Like the stock type is 5 ish, the one I have is 5.5 ish, and the LT1 -N40 is 6 ish?

              Joe

It's 100+ with lows in the 80's I have to work half naked, sorry

Would this be the LT1 -N40 pan and 327 mechanical?

My pan from Ebay did need the 3830080 pick up tube to work; so maybe that tube works for both pans?

Yes, this looks liek the "6 quart" pan. To confirm, see if it has a "trap door" as part of the internal baffling.

The 3830080 pick-up screen will work for both the "5 quart" and "6 quart" CORVETTE oil pans. It will not work for the pan you have pictured several post above OR for 1975-79 Corvette oil pans.

Regardless of the configuration differences, I believe that both of the pans you have pictured are "5 quart" pans (actually 4 quart capacity but one additional quart of system capacity in the oil filter).

The upper pan was never used on a Corvette although it is somewhat similar to the 75-79 Corvette pan. The lower pan is the 63-74 "5 quart" Corvette pan. It was used only for Corvettes.
