66 telescopic question

    66 telescopic question

    does the telescopic column look different than a standard,if they look the same how would you know which one you have?the one i have seems like you can pull on the wheel and it moves out but it does not have any thing other than a horn button on it.

    Yes, Mark, the two columns have distinctively different designs.
    First, the Tele will have a locking lever above and between the horn button and the steering wheel.
    Secondly, the couplers (at the Rag Joint) are different.
    The standard column has the same design couplers, reversed, top and bottom near the steering gear box.
    The Tele uses the same upper coupler, with a unique flatter style lower coupler and fasteners.
    If you do indeed have the Standard column, I hope you were not moving when you were able to pull the wheel rearward, this could indicate a loose shaft to coupler lock nut condition that could pull completely out and could result in no steering control at all.

      thanks for the info,looked at some others that posted some pics for there telescopic wheels and i must have a standard.took it out to fix the odometer cluster.
