    Where to buy emblems?

I am looking to buy some of the exterior emblems for my '68. A few are still available from GM like the rear CORVETTE letters and the front nose emblem. They are significantly more expensive from GM than some of the catalogs are advertising, which I presume are repros.

Should I pay more for the GM stuff or is the repro stuff equal or better than the GM parts. Thanks for any replies.

Mike, It Depends On What Your Intensions Are With The Car, Just Driving It, Or Going To Shows, Top Flight. The Repro. Emblems Look Great, But The Are Some Differences Between The Two The Factory Chrome Plating Is Not That Great The Edges Of The Emblems Are A Rougher Finish And The Red Color Is Not The Same As Factory, The Repro Ones Look Great All Around.

It depends on who judges your car - do they know that emblems in 1968 were NOT perfect? Do they know that AT LEAST SOME repro's may be too perfect......and do they have the ___ to make the deduct?
      There is NO sure answer.
I would look - for a limited time - for someone who bought replacements in 68/9 and compare them to the metal work on my existing (if you feel that they may be original) emblems, and then succumb to the best repro - odds are that the "best repo" will be the only one your judges have seen and they view it, wrongly, as "the standard".

Unless the GM letters have gone to crap, they are good, but the flags have not been very good for over 15 years. Trim Parts emblems had been by far the best over the years. I think that there are at least sources of the flags, so make sure they are Trim Parts. I believe that on the back side of their emblems you will see the faint letters CMD, the prior name of Trim Parts

The 68 gas tank lid crossed flay emblem if original is not removalable like the front emblem. If the chrome is still nice you could leave it attached like it came from factory and do your own painting. Paint is well worn on my original 68's but it is still attached.

Thanks guys. My car is a driver, but I don't mind spending a few extra bucks to do things right or if the parts are better quality. Based on the responses, I'll save some money and go with the Trim Parts stuff, it looks like the quality is at least as good if not better than GM.

I used Trim Parts for my restoration and thought they were very good quality.
