Question about missing Plug Bolt for '62 340 hp Aluminum Intake

During judging at BLoomington it was also pointed out to me that I was missing a plug bolt for my 340 hp Aluminium Intake. I have search tirelessly for pictures of what I need to obtain and cannot find anything.

Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

One more question, if I were going to embark on painting my exhaust pipes black, what would be the best product to use to accomplish that?

    Thanks in advance.

Do you have an allen fitting in the intake anywhere? Without anything to look at, it's difficult to discern exactly what might be referenced and unlike NCRS, you don't get judges comments/explanations back in the mail.

      Jonathan,

My original 62 340hp owned since Apr 1965 has a bolt in the manifold behind the 3269S AFB. Is this the plug you're referring to? Hex headed with flange washer. Without removing some things to get a better photo, I don't know if or what markings are on it but with a little more effort am sure I could find out. See photos. Larry

Obviously, attempt to post three photos did not work. Will try again. Larry

I believe normally that threaded hole is left unfilled, unless yours has been drilled all the way into the valley area.

I just used Barbecue Black. It may be a bit dull but I know it likely won't burn off...much.
Others have just used Krylon Semi-Flat.

Normally, or not, that's the way it came from the factory.

                Larry,

That is the only threaded hole in my intake with no bolt, so that must be it. Thanks!

If you ever get a chance to identify the head marking that would be great. No rush!

My 63 L-76 also has that tapped hole in the manifold w/o any bolt in it. Most 63's I've seen are that way. I'm not sure if you have the same p/no. manifold (62 vs. 63), but I can only speculate it was intended for attachment of something like a power brake fitting - more likely a 62 option. One thing is for certain; it wasn't an engine lift attachment point, Ha!

I currently use that tapped hole to mount a temperature sensing transducer for my electric choke. I pre-tested the area for temperature and, at that point, it is very close to that found at any water (intake)manifold attachment bolt (front or rear), which is where the directions indicated the transducer should be mounted. Ironically, I would have had interference at any of those eight (8) bolt positions so that tapped hole came in real handy. You can't hardly see it is there and it works great.

                    Jonathan,

I got a closer look at that manifold bolt and it has no marking on the head. As you can see from the photos, the hex head has a sunken top and washer base. A 1/2" wrench fits the head. I didn't remove it so don't know what the length is. Larry
