    1965 Water Pump Fitting

I have attached a photo of the top of the water pump on my 1965 L76 A/C coupe. I am sending a photo in the hope that someone knowledgeable will tell me what the mechanical section team wrote on the flight judging sheet. The sheet states: "fitting should be unpainted". Are they referring to the hose fitting at the bottom center of the photo, partially hidden by a black hose?

If this is, indeed, the fitting in question, what is the best method of removing the paint? -Clark

Yup, you have the wrong fitting painted. The heater hose fitting should be unpainted and zincad plated.
The bypass fitting, and bypass hose, on the top of the water pump should be painted engine orange.

You might try paint stripper applied with a very small brush to remove the paint on the heater hose fitting. Probably best to remove it and do this though.

Yes, was installed at St Louis during car assembly, and was not painted during engine painting. Probably due to 2 different parts if AC or not.

Drove the 64 over 5000 miles to three Regionals and the San Jose National, one dust storm and 40 lbs of bugs!
