    69 Water Pump Hose Kinked

Rerouting the water pump hose based on AIM C60 D6 page 342 and will clamp towards the back of the compressor, but the hose kinks (see pics) due to the angle. Is this supposed to be a form fitted hose? Paragon has part number 6502K (heater hose kit) which I believe is the correct one.

    Thanks,

    Pat

Pat, Sometimes When You Get Those Hoses They've Been Sitting Coiled Up On The Shelf For Years And Then Trying To Make All Those Bends When Routing The Hose Is Next To Impossible,it Might Make It Alittle Easier To Start The Hose At The Water Pump End First, And Drap It Over The Top Of Compressor Use The Hoses Natural Curves To Your Advantage The Work Back To Heater Core . P.s. Keep The Rubber Hose Away From The Sharp Edges On The Brackets Which Will Rub Through From Vibration. Hope This Helps Ed (49497)

Ed - the hose I have is not form fitted. I think a form fitted hose would eliminate the problem I'm having, so I'm trying to determine if my assumption is correct before I shell out the money.

      Thanks,

      Pat

Over the past winter I replaced all the "Napa" heater hoses on my 69, I feel your pain. I actually had a more difficult time with the other end of that hose your showing that routes to the expansion tank. I had a slight kink on the tank end that came out when the coolant got hot and under pressure. I can't predict that will happen for you though. I do know that you can't find the absolutely correct hoses that you are replacing on a BB with AC. I did find a NOS hose at Dr. Rebuild (note the ribs in the hose) that seemed a little more forgiving when installed. I also installed NOS tower clamps, other replacement clamps just don't cut it. The heater core hoses were a real treat. I had more small cuts on my hands than I could count.

Jeff - the pics are a big help. You're obviously making that sweep up without a kink. You must have a better quality, more rigid hose than I do. I know the hose with the formed end (i.e. 90 degree angle) would mitigate this problem, but it's functionally not correct. I'll check out Doc Rebuild.

          Thanks,

          Pat

Just a thought. Perhaps if you cut about an inch off of the hose at the water pump fitting you might pick up some additional clearance.

Re: 69 Water Pump Hose Kinked - Revisited

Based on Jeff's pic (1st one) I think I know why my hose is kinking. It appears the piece that connects the hose to the water pump is wrong.

As you can see in Jeff's pic the hose is flush, but mine extends about 2" inches more (2nd pic). I'm assuming Jeff's is correct and mine is wrong. If anybody can confirm this I'd appreciate it, thanks.
