Hey folks,
Coming along with my RPO restoration and will be ready for paint in a few weeks!!
Had a question about firewall holes - on the passenger side of my car, there is a hole where I think the base engine tach drive cable would go through the firewall. I had talked to someone before who said this hole should not be there and because of it he questioned if this was a 290 and/or RPO car (said he thought it was probably a 250 HP car because he was convinced the FI air cleaner mounting plate was original). When stripping the car I pulled out the rubber grommet in this hole and it is obvious that it was not factory drilled (I can post a pic in the next few days).
So, my questions are as follows:
-What holes should my car have in the firewall (assuming it is an RPO car)?
-Should I fill the hole I have found?? There is also some boogering up of the clutch rod hole and another hole in the passenger side firewall/inner fender where I am assuming the car had a battery cable run to mount in the trunk. Most all of the other holes are perfectly round and was wondering what the deal was. Can someone tell me what size the tach cable hole should be if it was factory drilled? I am asking because it is smaller than the one drilled on the driver side for the Distributor tach drive cable - if this "bubba" hole is smaller than a factory drilled hole would have been, I can document that it wasn't there originally.
On a similar note, under each door opening on the inside of the body/passenger compartment (further back past where the wiring harness cover plates are - about where the seat backrest is) there is the "normal" hole on each side where the wiring harness goes through the body and to the rear of the car. Because the air ducting goes through the rocker panel, I was wondering if these holes should be there on an RPO car. These holes basically cut into the air passageway on an RPO car where in a regular corvette this area would just be dead space.
Any thougths on this stuff would be greatly appreciated!!
Thanks,
Ken
