    60 heater coolant valve repair

While having my heater core cleaned I noticed that the coolant valve is "stuck" open. I sprayed the external mechanisim with wd-40 and while moving the arm I see that the valve still won't move and in fact is still open and can easily blow through it.

Would the capilary tube be causing it to stay open because it's sensing a cool temp or is it probably just in need of replacement? Is there any way to test the valve or should I just replace it to be on the safe side?

    Thanks

    Greg,

I just spent about 20 hours restoring the heater system in a client's Vette; if the valve is original, I would replace it. Not sure who could restore the original. Corvette Central has an exact reproduction; fit and finish were exact specs to the original.

I didn't think CC's replacement had the capillary tube. Greg, I had a guy restore two originals for me. It seems like they were around $75. There's various folks that have sites on the internet that do them.

Here's a site that shows one being rebuilt. http://www.pbase.com/czechman/ranco Just type in "heater control valve restoration.
