C3 Rt Upper Control Arm Marking

The right upper control arm is supposed to be marked with a white letter "R". Is this located on the upper surface and about how tall is the letter? Inch and a half? Is this marking in chalk, grease pencil or paint stick?

Also on the frame shim markings. What color and was it grease pencil or chalk?

While I've not seen every Corvette made (the qualifying statement) I've never seen nor heard of this previously. Did you get this info from the Judging Guide? Just wondering.

At the bottom of Page 79 of the 68-69 Judging Guide references the control arm marking and page 83 FRAME references the shim markings.

The frame shim marks are in yellow or white -- take your pick -- either color was used depending on what paint stick was laying around. They are paint sticks -- not grease pencil or chalk. If I look around here some I might be able find one to give you the brand, but you would have to buy a box of a dozen or more; and they dry out and become unusable. Better wait until the Road Tour and Convention are over. I won't have enough time to turn around twice until then.

Paint sticks are available at your local craft store... Hobby Lobby, A C Moore, etc., nearly any color.

I've been restoring midyears since 1973, and I've never seen a control arm with a white "R" on it; I'm not a C3 guy, but they used the same control arm, made at the same plant (Chevrolet-Warren) with the same process, by the same people. It's either a C3 thing, or....
