    67 parking brake adjustment

My 67 rolls even with the parking brake fully engaged. Can I just adjust the parking brake cable tension with cable adjusting nuts or do I also have to adjust the parking brake shoes?

    Thanks

The emergency brakes on a 67 are nothing to write home about. I believe there just isn't enough brake shoe "surface area" to be a great system.

If you think the brake handle pulls back too far (greater than 10 oclock) then you need to adjust the cable.

If the handle tightens up at about the 10 oclock point then you'll need to adjust the brake shoes at each wheel.

OR you'll probably needto a combination of the above.....being careful not to have things overtight and have the brakes dragging.

Do you have a copy of the CSM (Chassis Service Manual) for your car? You should find a section dedicated to the Corvette brake system, including parking brake adjustment.

It'll tell you to put the car on a lift, get the rear wheels off, FULLY loosen the adjustable brake cable and then adjust each wheel's p-brake shoes (specifics are in the book).

Once the p-brake shoes are properly adjusted, re-mount the wheels and re-tighten the adjustable brake cable.

BUT, as mentioned, the Corvette parking brake is pretty MARGINAL when compared to other Chevy passenger car systems. Still, it should hold the car and prevent it from rolling on a reasonably shallow incline...
