These are the tools you need. phpbdqLAaPM.jpg First I decided to install the spring on the car so I didn't have to back off the rear brakes. Don't forget to use a support stand when working on your car, never trust a car jack.phpbn4m2PPM.jpg After removing the tyre, place the clamps over the brake drum. If the drums have been restored place a rag or something soft between the two ends of the drum as not to damage the finish. Oh be careful not to clamp the back arm on the brake back plate you could easily bend it so make sure the clamps are connected to the brake drum itself. After the clamps are on feed the spring threw the clamps and connect. I purchased the spring through Paragon and it measures 33 1/2 inches and is not the square type it's round. php4iQopvPM.jpg phpvDjHVLPM.jpg After connecting the loop, hoop the bottom over the drum not all the way just half an inch to the edge.

Re: This Is How To Install A C1 Brake Drum Chatter Spring
I found it easier to not use gloves and with your thumbs roll the spring over until you reach the top.phpdb8tDwPM.jpg phpEeNRUpPM.jpg
Then keep rolling the spring until you are in the groove. Job finished !!! phprerWW2PM.jpg After removing the drum a quick media blast some black chassis spray and it looks like new phpamOfGcPM.jpg Stewy- Top

Re: This Is How To Install A C1 Brake Drum Chatter Spring
The spring is very stiff but stretches over the drum pretty easily. The clamps are a must, it would be very difficult to do this without the clamps. If you wanted to you could even use a 3rd clamp. Total time was around 45 minutes that's with a media blast and paint. Stewy- Top

Re: This Is How To Install A C1 Brake Drum Chatter Spring
Thanks Stewart for posting your instructions. I never thought of using large "C" clamps, primarily because I don't have any and I could not get past the premise that, in all my collection of automotive tools, surely I must have a tool or tools designed to do this automotive task. Also, I had painted my drums first thinking I could just stretch the spring around in the groove and hook the ends together, Ha!
Also, before I undertake the project again, can someone tell me why I should? What will I gain from having them on?

Re: This Is How To Install A C1 Brake Drum Chatter Spring
Hey Stu I was going to leave it off but I felt dirty knowing it wasn't on. It was a bit like a badge not being on the car for me.
A couple of weeks ago I posted that I was going to install a chatter spring and a couple said it was difficult so I thought I would take some photos as I was doing it. Someone mentioned they use clamps and without them the task would be very difficult. Stewy- Top
