    Factory Service Manuals

Can anyone advise me on where to purchase a good Factory Service Manual?

I was disappointed a few years back when I purchased an Assembly Manual. It looked like some of the pages were photo copies, they were blurred and a lot of the detail was just not there. I don't know if this is a problem with any of the Factory Service Manuals or not.

I don't mind paying for a quality product. I notice several vendors are advertising Service Manuals, but I wonder if they are all the same.

Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

    Thomas,

I bought Chevy Service Manuals from Helm Publications when I first got my '66. That was before I was a NCRS member. I believe they're available from the NCRS store.

I have two Service Manuals for my 67--one is original, one is a reprint. World of difference in the picture detail. Try to find an original if you can. They're on eBay all the time.

        Thomas:

You can either buy from the NCRS Store or go directly to Helm Inc.

Helm has been the source of GM Factory Service and Overhaul Manuals for many, many years. They also print other make/model service manuals.

If original manuals are not available, the current reproductions are generally pretty good, but the pictures and illustrations are not as clear as the originals. For these cases, you can search for original new/used manuals that are available. Probably do a "google" search for "Factory Service Manuals" or something like that and then contact the bigger suppliers. Hemmings also has a listing of companies selling original new/used manuals. Faxon's Auto Literature is one of bigger ones: http://www.faxonautolit.com

The factory AIM is a bit different for the early cars. It seems that only a few copies were made available, and these were then copied and copied and copied until the current ones are very difficult to read. Someone may have a source for a good one, but my 1967 AIM from Mid-America is difficult to read at best. I have heard that CD or DVD versions are being offered for sale, but I have not seen one myself to comment on the quality.

          Thomas,

The Assembly Instruction Manuals (AIMs) were an internal document, not intended to be seen outside of Chevrolet Engineering and/or the St. Louis Corvette assembly plant. They have proven to be a great aid in properly restoring an old Corvette. As they were copied over and over, some pages lost contrast and detail. When purchasing an AIM, ask if it can be returned if the quality is not good.

During the production year, and for a couple of years afterward, Chevrolet printed their own Service and Repair Manuals in the basement of the big GM building in downtown Detroit. After the sales of the manuals dropped off, the rights were sold to Helm, Inc. I have not seen a poor quality Service Manual from either Chevrolet or Helm. Service (and repair) manuals and AIMs are available from many sources of Corvette parts.

          Good Luck,

          Noland Adams (4)

For your 3 cars the NCRS store is the place to buy the service manual for lyour 1969. The NCRS store only has the supplement for your 1976. The 84 service manual is not carried by the NCRS store, www.helminc.com will have it.
I got my 85 service manual from Helm, lots of info.
Helm is the place that is in the back of your 1969 owners manual that you could of ordered the service manual in 1969. They have been around a long time. I still have my first manual from them that I got for my 1964.

                  Jack,

Good to hear from you. At last, the blood sugar is almost under control. My daughter Kim has moved about two hours away, so I don't see her very often.

Have fun in the "Mother country".
