So, I was looking at my quarter trim panels today, and found a couple date and manufacturing codes! I'm a history buff, so taking this car apart and finding all the little date stamps is kind of neat.
I THINK both of these panels are original. I know the one is for sure, because it has a "May 27 1966" date stamp. The other, it is REALLY hard to read the month. But the rest of it says "23 1966". I think I can make out a faint "May", but that might just be my imagination.
The manufacturing numbers are REALLY hard to get a picture of. They say "18433". Curiously again, the SIZE of those numbers is significantly different between the two panels.
Also, the driver's side panel shows evidence of red overspray. The car is not COMPLETELY a virgin body, and has been slightly resprayed in a few areas. Can I assume that happened at a body shop at not at the factory? I'm assuming that the quarter trim panels were NOT on the car when it went through the paint booth.
Also interesting, is that the inside of the quarter trim panels are painted black, but only on the top half. In other words, in the top picture, where the faint red overspray is, is originally black, all the way down to where the panel steps out.
Anyway, here are the pictures.
My question is about the screw holes at the bottom. They aren't the same. On the driver's side, there is a main hole and a secondary hole, both on the bottom ridge of the panel. However, on the passenger's side, there is only the main hole on the bottom ridge, and the secondary hole is up a ways on the panel.
Any thoughts on the difference in the holes?
