    69 Zl-1

Is the information available as to how many 69 ZL-1 corvettes were produced, and if so ,their vin#'s ? (I always thought there were only two, but after browsing a post in archives,it seems there is a possibility of three?)
    Thanks-EJ

I believe the 'party line' is two based on GM production records. However, understand those figures come from final assy plant data. It wouldn't be the first time that a given car was 'converted' to another configuration by Engineering (test this/that) and disposed of later...

I was just reading Corvette, The Complete Illustrated History by Jim Campisano. He states that there are only two 69 ZL-1s. This book was published in 1992 and at that time the yellow car was owned by Roger Judski of Maitland, FL who purchased the car from Federal marshals, and the white car was part of the collection of Otis Chandler, the former publisher of the LA Times.

IS THE WHITE ONE A ZL-1??????

Years ago when Dave McLellan was chief engineer, he asked me to do some research, in the engineering files, on a car that Otis Chandler was considering buying, a white ZL-1.

I did an indebt search and could not find any reference to said vehicle. I informed Otis of this, but he bought it anyway.

If I'm reading Art correctly, he found two and the white one was not one of them. Perhaps he will elaborate...

Here is one of them and I understand it has a file cabinet of documentation. PT

No Bill, you are not reading me right. I was only asked to try and find documents on the white one Otis was looking to buy.

How many ZL1 engines were sent to St.Louis and how many were returned?

Dick Ferrando did a lot of research into the white car. The story of this car has been told in an indepth article published in VETTE VUES magazine some years back. It has a colored history, but the bottom line is that it was not 1 of the two known documented cars from the St. Louis records.

If someone is interested in knowing more about this car I can get the magazine issue #, the story is interesting.

Good question, you'll have to ask the owner!
