    how about this

    Corvette C6 Fuel Economy Test
    The Test Environment
    • Vehicle: Corvette C6 standard six-speed manual transmission
    • Route:Speed: 55 mph (10 under)
    • Fuel Type: 18-gallon tank with 91 octane gas
    • Additional: Cruise control used, no A/C, windows up
    The Results
    • Avg. speed: 52.8 mph
    • Avg. mpg: 32.8 mpg!!!!!!!!

WOW!! To measure 32.8 mpg on the highway is close to what a 2008 Ford Focus clocks. Pretty spectacular for a super car like Corvette to get similar results!

Here is a video of a C5 vs a Prius in a fuel economy challenge.

I have always felt that the technology to produce fast, light fuel efficient production cars existed.Cost of materials and the engineering would increase costs. So we settled for fast and poor mileage to keep price down. It is nice to see Corvette lead in that area. A friend has a new 'Vette and brags about his mileage all the time. Why does GM not boast about this along with the styling and performance. This is BIG.

I drive my 06 hard 400HP and still get 23MPG, I drive my 55 Corvette and 195HP the best I get is 15MPG So which Corvette do you think I drive the most often?

That is some good mileage with the horsepower the C6 has.

In OCT of 2007 I left Fort Worth, TX, had just over a half tank

of gas and filled up about 20 miles west of of the

Texas/Arkansas state line. Drove home to Jackson, TN

which is 120 miles west of Nashville. Forget what the

            actual mileage was now.

This trip was in my 96 LT4. The computer MPG read 30 MPG

average and had just slightly above, but not much above a

half tank of gas when I parked in my garage. Drove the speed limit 70 on cruise control

and did not have to use the air conditioner and windows

up. Had about 39K on the car then.

            I want a new C6 though.

Who are you kidding. No one in the world drives like that. I own and drive 3 v8 cars and they suck juice. Yeah the computer controlled fuel burning helps a million over a carby. But a V8 with 400 cube driving every day uses fuel over a lighter small displacement car. There are cars on the market that get over 60 mpg driven like that. Modern day v8's get better economy than 25 years ago. But are still thirsty in comparison to what's out there. Stewy

I'm with you Roy, we have a Prius among our other toys, but the '55 and my '72 Land Cruiser with the 350 and 4 speed are the most fun to drive. BUT, just took the Prius on a business trip and was paid mileage for the trip, actually turned a profit driving... Heh-heh.

The C5 6 speeds are actually a little better than the C6 6 speeds. NO problem getting 30 to 32 MPG on a trip in 6th gear at 65-70 mph. The technology is there to have both power and fuel economy. With those new CAFE standards looming the Corvette will lose weight and still be a stout performer as well as an "economy" car true to the "Obama Vision"

I posted this before, as I recall (). I have a friend who drove his 6 speed '99 from Dallas/Fort Worth to Chicago, 70 and over, and got 30 mpg. 'Not bad for going up hill.

Come-on! Even Prius drivers generally run at the speed limit, not 10 under. This moron was just another mobile road block that I see waaaaaaaaaay too often - and driving a Corvette? Sacrilige!

As stated, even running at the speed limit to 5-10 over, WITH THE A/C ON, a modern Corvette will get close to 30 MPG on a long freeway drive.

What does this prove - that we should return to the hated 55 MPH speed limit that Newt Gingrich finally got rid of. PUL-EEESE!
