Late 66 Brake Line Survey: Was Your Car Built On or Around May 2, 1966 (s/n 20665)?

As many of you may recall, I took a survey of late 1966 car owners a couple years ago on the methods used to attach the front brake line to the frame crossmember.

The results of my survey provide evidence that the attachment method changed from a single loop-like clip (1 hole in the center of the crossmember) to 2 flat-style clamps with recessed hex head bolts (3 holes in the crossmember with the center hole unused). Each flat-style clamp is directly above the lower a-arm nut plate.

The change occured in the vicinity of s/n 20665 which was the first car built Monday, May 2, 1966.

Each owner that responded with a car s/n 20541 (April 29) or earlier reported the single clip method (as described in the '66 TIMJG). All but 2 owners with cars s/n 20752 (May 2) or later reported the 2 flat-style clamp method. Neither of those 2 owners were certain of their car's originality.

Do you own a '66 between s/n 20541 and 20752 (210 cars)? Can I ask you to check the method used on your car and email the result to Tim Ehlers at tehlers@hess.com please? I'd love to hear from you and further narrow down the date and car the change occured with!

    Thanks, Tim
