    Bo,

I can't help you but I could sure use a 1970 alternator. I have sent you a PM.

      Bo:

There are different alternators for different 65 applications. List your drivetrain combo and we can assist.

          Bo -

Do you have the NCRS 1965 Corvette Technical Information Manual & Judging Guide? It has the answers to your questions, and to many more, and is the standard against which the car is judged.

Bo -- the others have pointed you in the right direction as far as finding out what is correct for both the alternator and the steering box. But since you have Noland's Vol 2, his 1965 alternator survey info is found on page 309. He shows a VIN 10700 and 10800, both having dates 5B13 [Feb 13th]. Also a couple of earlier Feb cars 09500 and 09800, both with 5A28 dates. All these four are the 1100693 37 amp version, which is the most plentiful, found on most Chevrolets, and the one you should have for your car (no air or transistor ignition).

Not much in the way of visible numbers on a steering box, but the top cover is what interests the judges most. Post a pic of what you have and I'm sure you'll get comments.

Bo -- found a few pics of the steering box off my late '65. The Saginaw casting symbol and casting # cannot be seen when on the car.

                Wayne & Others,
I was unaware that the steering gear box had a date stamp code on it when checking this post. So, I went to my Pictures file of my 67 and found this photo taken from the topside of the engine compartment, can someone help in the decoding of my gearbox?
                Rick
