    Front suspension progress

Well, master gurus, what say you all? (I know, I haven't detailed the chassis yet with all the right paint marks, but OTHER than that)

Either the North Central or Heartland Chapter meets this fall.

Its first regional will most likely be the Heartland regional in Iowa next May. Then look for me in either Gettysburg or North Carolina. I'll be the one with the red 67. (heh)

I "think" that the lower portion (half?) of a 67 spindle is supposed to be orange. You may want to check into that, as it's easiest to dip it.

Nice job Chris! Based on your quest for knowledge I know your project will be appreciated by many. Chassis should be the least of your worries.

Since every judge likes to find something, are those lower ball joint rivets?...painted?.... I believe they SB natural.

I still owe you some pics of hood blackout paint line on my orig paint 65!

          Good luck

Thanks Jim. The ball joints are original style GM replacements with rivets. I know they should be natural. I tried to approximate that finish as best I could.

Patrick, I think Chris will be fine. The spindle castings generally have orange marking on the upper half. Not all are so completely covered, some are more striped. So he should be able to add that anytime. I ran into an original 66 BB that also had a blue dab in the middle under all the grease. What it means , I don't know.

Just curious, on the painting orange of the spindle, was that done after the car was assembled? In other words, would the spindle rod bolts be orange too?

My spindle pieces had orange on top on one side and the bottom of the other. They looked like the paint was done before assy. Nothing at all fancy.... just get some orange markings on them.

Thanks Stephen. Hey, I had a nice chat with your nephew the other day. Saw his Dodge Carryall at the last show here in the Twin Cities. He gave me your number, hopefully it's Ok if I call sometime and we talk about 67s.

Yup, sure was. Wasn't sure if you knew it by that name or not. Anyway, I saw a LOT of cars there that I really liked. In particular was a 64 327/365 4 speed AIR coupe, originally silver over silver/black.......there can NOT be many of those running around.....

                            Chris -

The orange was applied at Chevrolet-Warren, where the spindles were manufactured, before the hub/rotor/caliper and steering arm were attached; it was then shipped as a complete assembly to St. Louis.
