installing all new vacuum hose kit on my 68, noticed new hoses are larger diameter?

The hose kit length wise and all seem to be spot on but seems like most of the hoses I'm replacing are thicker rubber/larger diameter than my originals...anyone else notice this before?

I ordered this entire kit from paragon.

I also noticed the Tee's they sent were black but I just used my original Tee's which are beige looking.

this is on my 68 427..I'm 99% sure I ordered the right kit.

any thoughts? was just curious if anyone else noticed this before.

    thanks!

    Brandon:

I remember reading/hearing about this problem before. If I recall correctly, the best fit was obtained using a DR REBUILD hose kit.

Hopefully others will have additional comments/advice.

Yes, my 68 build date is D07 which is Nov. 1967.

so mine was built late 67.

so the early 68's had different diameters?

Mine is D13. Please save the old hoses after you take them off!

I did save them and mark them.

I went to Dr rebuilds site it is a very un-uder friendly site IMO. I couldn't even find any vacuum hose kits let alone him explaining why other retailers aren't as correct as his?

any help is appreciated if he explains my problem on that site. I may send this back and order from him.

                  thanks clem!

Ok I plan on taking off all the new hoses I installed and demand a refund from paragon even tho they have sat in my basement for 2 months..I just now installed them.

and I'll call dr rebuild and make sure I order the right thing..so if I order his 68 kit it will be closer than this one from paragon sounds like..

                  thanks

Too large of headlight hoses is a problem and I will be interested to see if the good doctor has them in a smaller OD.

To learn what the problem really is go to your local auto store and just for a learning experience ask to see their vacuum hoses.
Then you will realize what the repro companies are up against. The new hoses are fatter. The new brass fittings are fatter. I mean you would think it would be just the opposite??? JD

The new hoses maybe metric sizes JD. Just because they are sold here with Imperial sizes listed on the packaging doesn't mean that they are not made to metric standards. Increasingly we are in a one-size-fits-all world.

Terry, You got it right my friend. It's getting quite difficult now for me to buy the correct fittings for the old FI restorations as jumbo fittings seem to be the norm. Luckily I stocked up. As far as finding the correct hoses that involves walking the fleas. JD

We had one in the shop, VIN somewhere below 1,000 that still had the thin wall hoses. We replaced them per the owner's request and I put them up for safekeeping. However one of my "star" employees apparently threw them out when we were cleaning up. He has been gone almost 4 years and I am still finding things that he screwed up. I gave him a check and asked him to ship a package one day, sometime about 3? years ago. I found the package shoved under a shelf about 3 months ago. The check, you know the rest of the story
