C3 Alarm Horn Question

I have a couple of alarm horns for C3 cars. One has an aluminum "trumpet",
8 1/2" in length and the other has a plastic, screw in "trumpet" 5 1/2" in length. Did they vary from year to year or is only one correct?

One, the 5 1/2" one works great and the other needs to be rebuilt, so I want to know if it is worth the effort and cost to rebuild it.

Plastic trumpet is the Corvette alarm horn. I can't vouch for the length, but it sounds about right -- besides it goes where the sun don't shine. Who is ever going to measure it?

I think the other horn with the metal trumpet is a Cadillac or Buick piece. Those guys were not on the same weight-saving campaign as the Corvette engineers.

I seem to remember a story in "The Corvette Restorer" titled: "It is Better to be Lucky Than Good" It was written by someone who should know about those kinds of things.
