I need a fuel pump for my 72 LT-1 with AC. It's got 3 oulets/inlets and a large can.

As per the the 70-72 TM & JG "Fuel pumps had the AC logo cast into the narrow supporting portion near the fulcrum for the lever.Some pumps had the AC logo on the top of the pump. The fuel pump will be stamped on the rear underside of its base (the flange that bolts to the engine).Since on the field it is next to impossible to see this number, it is not judged."
I guess its up to you to determine what level of correctness you wish to replace a part that won't be judged, a dillema we all face trying to keep these cars as original as we can.

No LT-1 ever used a fuel pump with 3 outlet/inlets. LT-1 fuel pumps had ONE inlet fitting which was a nipple and ONE outlet fitting which was a threaded flare nut style. LT-1 did not use a fuel return line.
Also, no LT-1 ever originally used a long canister (i.e. "large can") style fuel pump.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Corvettes originally equipped with the LT1 engine came with only one fuel line on the passenger side of the car.
They may or may not, depending on the year of the car and options equipped, have a vapor return line on the driver's side of the car. In the case of 1972 there was a vapor return line on the driver's side of the car of all Corvettes, but this line has no connection to the fuel pump. It runs between the fuel tank and the carbon cannister.
The fuel line(s) (liquid fuel) are on the passenger side of the car. For 1972 the base motor and LS5 had two lines on the passenger side of the car -- a supply line and a return line, and the fuel pumps used with those engines had connections for each line.Terry- Top

I'm not aware of nor have I ever seen a 70-72 LT-1 that was originally built with a passenger side fuel return line (or, long canister style fuel pump). Did it ever happen? I greatly doubt it but, as with most things, I would not rule it out completely. Are you sure the car is an ORIGINAL LT-1? I realize that 1972 was the first year that the engine option was coded into the VIN. However, VIN tags can be "swapped". If I were looking at a 70-72 LT-1 and it had a fuel return line on the passenger side, I'd want to look REAL, REAL close at other things. Things like the engine and transmission stampings and pad and, most especially, the VIN derivative stamped on the frame.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

All the replacement pumps that I have seen in the last few years have had the AC number but no logo. I think that Airtex is the source for all the pumps with the AC number, so where ever you can get the best deal, NAPA, Carquest, etc. is where I would buy the pump.Last edited by Dick W.; June 21, 2009, 12:07 PM.Dick Whittington- Top
