    baffle advice needed

the car has hooker side pipes; i guess they are 4" diameter.
when i bought it, the baffles were simply too loud for any use in a residential area, so i replaced them with the reverse flow baffles from hooker [hooker did not recommend them]. good noise supression but a real loss of umpf.

now that i live in farm country i can go to a louder system but not the original hooker baffles i had.

someone suggested spiral turbobaffles. any comments, thoughts or suggstions?? i'm running the 390 bb.

Werner, try posting this question on the Corvette Forum in the drag racing section. There is quite a bit of discussion on mufflers for Hookers there. Unlikely the purists on this site can help you with this. If you need more info on the site just let me know. Good luck.

Mufflers for Hookers - you really are on the wrong site, specially for this time of year.

i chose this site because over the years i have found the most serious and expert corvette advice here. i didn't think the purist car owners could help, but i thought maybe someone owns more than one 'vette, perhaps a serious numbers matching car and also a fun non matching driver, perhaps with 4" side pipes. or perhaps maybe someone knows someone etc. no insult intended; just an honest appeal for advice.

I made a set of mufflers for the Hooker pipes. Took a pair of Cherry Bombs and rolled a 4" cone for each end. Welded the cone to the inlet and outlet pipes and put into the header side pipes. Crude, but works.

Hardest part was getting the side pipes loose from the headers. They were reassembled using Never-Seize.

I liked the sound of hooker headers with the std. supplied 4" slip in mufflers but they got louder over the years and were very hard on womens nylons, so I went back to stock exaust and can hear the radio better as well. Steve

I apologize for my comment. It was all in jest. I know nothing about side pipes beyond experimentation with them on my old 50 Chevy V8 in 1956. I used long 50 Olds mufflers welded to chrome side pipes in front of the rear wheels. Had a unique sound for sure, but they curied me for life. To me any exhaust exiting ahead of the rear axle is for race cars, not street cars. Leastwise, if you intend to drive it and stay sane. Guess my opinion slipped through anyway in an odd way.
