    63 Tires

I am about to have my 63 coupe judged and naturally have the proper firesone tires on the vehicle.. After judging my plan is to take the firestone tires off and replace with something more practical that will give me a better ride and performance and fit into the spare tire tub.. Not sure if I want raised white letter or a white wall or maybe just plain black..
If anyone has any experience what will fit in the spare tire tub and give me a good ride and performance I would appreciate the input.. The car is a coupe and is saddle tan in color
    Thanks for you help

    Hi John
From your membership # it looks like you are a long time NCRS member but this is apparently your first post so welcome to the TDB! You'll find it a great experience.

Your question is one that has been covered in a literally hundreds of posts over the past couple of years. Here's a link to a recent thread that should help:

John, you'll also find the search function very handy. The Search link can be found in the second blue bar at the top of the page. Click on it and enter a few words like "C2 tire recommendation" and you'll be directed to a number of previous threads that should help you out.

As to your specific question, you'll find opinions like certain parts of the anatomy.... everyone has one! I'll put my 2 cents in. I'm a big fan of the blackwall Pirelli P4000 Supertouring 215/70R15. They fit well without rubbing and perform incredibly well - traction, ride, handling, etc. The do NOT fit in the spare tire well. I have an old garden variety radial in the well and hope I don't need it. In a pinch, my passenger may need to have a flat tire in their lap until we get somewhere to fix it. Small price to pay for the superior performance that the Pirelli's provide.

Welcome aboard and I look forward to seeing you online.

    Cheers,

I guess you would call me a lurker as I read only.. Not as well versed as most of you people on the list.. Thanks again for you help and suggestions..

        Hi John, Welcome!

We have a 63 coupe and have 5 - 1" whitewall radials on it. If I recall 205x15's. In order for a same size spare to fit in the tub, I had to get the longer support rods for the front of the tub cover. They're about an inch or so longer. Drawback is that the cover sticks down a little more at the rear also. Looks a little odd but rather have the matched spare just in case.

Coker makes 3 that were original for the 63. Firestone, Uniroyal, and B F Goodrich. If you check the spec sheets on the Coker web site you'll notice that they are all slightly different in size. The Firestone is the largest diameter. The B F Goodrich will fit in the standard spare tire tub.

Correct Bob, I ordered a set of the Coker Firestones, diameter is 28 1/2" won't fit in tub. Have BFG Silvertowns now, good fit and speedo is spot on. Check OD's before ordering, found out the hard way!
