58 (1x4) Radio components
Does anyone have pictures of the complete radio, speaker and wiring for the 58 and is the power supply part of the radio or the speaker or a complete seperate item? Are there any original speakers out their and funtional? Thanks Brad.

Re: 58 (1x4) Radio components
The '58 WB consists of a main chassis with wire interconnect to the dash harness (power) and the remote speaker. The PS circuitry is built into the radio chassis.
Once in a while original Delco radio speakers from that era 'pop' up on eBay either in 'core' (as is, you get what your get), NOS (pretty rare) or in rebuilt-reconned condition. All can be pricey running $200-500 depending on market conditions...
If memory serves, there's an early vs. late issue with color of the detail paint on the WB seek button for '58 cars. Was it white to match the cove highlight behind the passenger side grab bar, or was it black like later C1 cars.
That's something that's easy to change, but you should investigate what's considered factory 'correct' for your car by talking to judges more knowledgeable in the area than I....
Other than the issue of WB seek button cosmetic detail, the '58 WB looks identical to '58-61E radios. Your copy of the AIM calls out the factory original PN for the radio and that number DOES appear on ID labels affixed to the set.
Unfortunately, to get at the ID label to read/confirm, you have to crack the chassis case covers and then 'hope' the original stick-on label is still intact/legible... Good luck!- Top

Re: 58 (1x4) Radio components
Here is a 58-60 radio and a 58-60 speaker. The 61E radio has curved front buttons, the 58-60 has flat front buttons. The connector on the speaker farness if original it would be beige and the repros are black.
The radios come up on EBAY pretty regularly. Decent radios with knobs are about $500-$800. Figure $250-$550 for a functional rebuild. Repro faceplate kits are about $150. The repro kits have set screws for the buttons (originals don't) and the CC (Corvette Central) logo on the bottom of the button. If you get the originals rechromed the rebuilders may charge $75 or so to fit the buttons and search bar back on.
Original speakers also come up time to time. I bought one for $40 and one for $80 and paid $35 each for reconing and testing.- Top

Re: 58 (1x4) Radio components
PS, there are multiple sources for speaker re-cone services and the prices vary GREATLY. Some are now up into the $120 range for a common variety 6x9...
The guy who does this locally in Denver tells me he's having trouble getting supplies of voice coils, cones and speaker gaskets. He says traditional supply sources are drying up.- Top
