    58 steering gear box fluid

What kind of fluid goes in the steering box on a 58?

I use NGLI #2 synthetic available at many auto parts houses---try NAPA. Factory installed SAE 90 if I remember correctly.

Re: 58 steering gear box fluid

Sometime in 1957, GM sent out a service letter to no longer use gear oil (such as 80w90) and use chassis lube in the steering gear box. SOMEONE on this planet has a copy of that service letter and it has been posted in the past (although on another forum). I have also asked (several times) for the person who posesses that service letter to post it again so that I can save it to my pictures. So far, no one has posted it.
I have used nothing but chassis lube in my 56 box as well as the gear box on my 51 Chevy for MANY, MANY years and will continue to do so.
