    Re: Corvette Wins

Haven't had a chance to follow the race this year, but did the Corvette team have any competition? Kinda loses some of the luster of winning if they are the only ones running in their class as has happened most of the time the past couple years.

I do know they had a big enough lead to pull the car in the garage and clean it up to look good in the winner's circle before the race was even over !!!

Long live the Corvette !! Congrats on the win !

There were four C6Rs entered in GT1 - two works cars, two from a private team, one Aston Martin DRB9, and a Lamborghini.

The class winning works C6R finished 15th overall followed by a private team C6R in 16th with the rest of the GT1 field as follows:

          31st - DB9R
          48th - works C6R
          49th - Lamborghini
          51st - team C6R

A F430 won GT2 (In fact, the Ferraris totally dominated the Porsches.), and in the two prototype classes... ah, who cares.

The complete finishing order is on the following Web page:

It was a fitting end for the retirement of the C6R, and I look forward to the new GT2 Corvette mixing it up with Porsches, Ferraris, Panos, Vipers, Ford GTs, etc. in the upcoming ALMS races this summer.

Believe the #63 car won, but not sure if the #64 made it. They were stopped just short of pit in with a transmission problem - seemed serious. Had they been able to get it in, he may have finished. The competition seemed mostly to be private entered C6R's and a single Aston Martin. This is why, and I applaud them for it, they will soon be competing in GT-2 with a smaller engine. That will pit them against all the Aston Martins and Ferraris - believe first test is at mid-Ohio next month. The car will share many C-6 production parts as well. Should be interesting.

As a side light to this, GM has announced dropping financial support of the NASCAR Nationwide and Camping World (Truck) series as well. My understanding is that leaves only Toyota as Ford and Chrysler already pulled out last year. at least in the truck series. They will continue to provide wind tunnel support, I guess.

'Shades of the AMA pullout before. (the SS and GS could have been Le Mans contenders) Yes, the #63 won. The #64 had drive problems around the 22nd hour and did not finish---2007 all over again. 1-5 was Corvette with the exception of 4th.

I knew someone would hit that wall of tires by the end of the race. To me it spelled danger it just didn't look right at the end of that straight with that wall of tires ?
Didn't those Corvetes look sexy as though, the yellow and black colours looked awesome made the Ferrari's and Astons look a bit ordinary I thought. That's a good win for GM Chevrolet. The dealers might sell a few C6's on Monday. Stewy
