Re: Rear Brake Drum Chatter Spring
Duke;
Next time you are in Florida, let me know. I want you to stop by and show me how you do that. I'd like to make an instruction video too.
I believe one might be able to roll a stock "flat wire" spring that way, but I doubt it can be done with a "round wire" spring which is about all you can find nowadays. I tried every way I could think of, even had my local auto parts store people take a shot at it w/o success.

Re: Rear Brake Drum Chatter Spring
Stu have you tried using different springs. I wonder if you can get different length replacement springs or different tensions. I will be trying to get a spare couple of hours this week so I will try the no brainer approach and see if it works. I'm sure being me it won't and I will spend all day getting the bugger on. I did read you and Tracy's Chrisler's thread and he mentioned that he clamps the spring on and then pushes the other side on and then rolls it in place. I'll be trying that if I get stuck.- Top

Re: Rear Brake Drum Chatter Spring
I believe a couple extra hands may be the ticket. I tried with all kinds of prying tools by myself, and the underlying fear was that the spring would let go and take along one of my fingers.
To be honest, I'm sure there is a good reason for having them on, but I wonder if I would know the difference - specially with my Matrix Ceramic linings. I know as a kid back in the day we used to remove them on purpose to improve cooling, or so we thought. This was when we ran 14" wheels on a car originally having 15". It just appeared as though they restricted the flow of air between the wheel and the drum.
