    Zr1

I just saw my first ZR1 in the local showroom. The dealer must have purchased it from another dealer. I saw a $30,000 "premium' added under another dealer's name on a paper on the dash. The total cost was $148,500 and the car was sold. The dealer got it for a guy here who also has a Viper. This is the second ZR1 he's sold. The previous purchaser drove up with his wife in their Ferrari to pick up his.

I was told they are shipped w/o the carbon fiber front air dam. Since this dealer isn't authorized/trained to install them, a dealer in Charlotte (2 hrs away) was sent to do the work. I was told the tools for the installation run $11,000.

I took my '69 over and the dealer parked them head to head and took some pictures. The ZR1 looks 40 light years differently from mine, but my insurance is $250. a year.

$10K over is the most quoted number I have heard. Friend of mine just picked up a black/black for $5k over.

I'm only reporting what I saw on the dash. I didn't think it was my business to ask further. The total was $148,500 so don't know. I didn't take any pics myself--guess I should have.

I have sold several ZR1's. You are correct that the carbon fiber parts are not installed by the factory. They include the side panels and front splitter. No special tools required to do the prep, but there was special training and tools that we are required to purchase for future service. Initial prep takes a couple of hours. It requires drilling and mounting the carbon fiber parts as well as the other basic operations of new car prep. I'm glad to hear the dealer brought in a qualified tech to do the prep. These cars should only be delivered through experienced Corvette dealers.

The dealer who took the pictures left this afternoon for the Outer Banks for a week. When he gets back, I'll ask if he'll email me the pictures. The Zr1 here is black and looks awesome. My '69 is Daytona Yellow; they looked great nose to nose.

$30k over sticker sounds steep in the current market. I would suspect if you saw the actual paperwork for the deal it would be significantly less than that.

And why did GM go under again?

Labor union contracts and poor product planning. Nothing to do with a dealer marking up a limited production model.

Not because of this car. That's a fact.
The way GM distributed them to the dealers................... Now, you may be onto something !
