This is completely non corvette related. Can someone tell me why is the United States GDP bigger than Asia and Europe combined, pretty much the entire world. What do you guys buy so much of besides Corvettes to make up that 13 + trillion dollars a year in spending. Do you guys ever go without. Stewy

Re: just personally interested Non corvette related
In my opinion we have become the dumbest country in the world. we are all in hock up to our asses and why? Because we have to have every gadget that comes along. Every one of those things is designed to be obsolete before we even learn how to use it. Records and 8 tracks were around for years now even CD's are considerd old by our children. My comunications bill at home is more than my regular car insurance and i do not even own a personal cell phone. We have to drink bottled water we have top have air purification systems there is always a new killer flue on the way. we spend more on cosmetics and weight loss than most entire country's earn.
I guess i could go on and on but i have to go to Radio Shack and my LIC order just arrived.

And NO apologies! We had a good run, and now it is over. The great experiment in Democracy is coming to a screeching halt after a run of only 233 years. Hell, I think the Greek and Roman great societies lasted longer.

John;
Good point. Thank you for fine tuning my response. I recall something I learned in 6th grade from my first male teacher; Yes, he said, "the majority may rule, but the minority is usually right". That thought/concept has stuck with me for 58 years and I keep it in mind when ever we are voted down.

Re: just personally interested Non corvette related
I was wondering, when you guys buy things do you just buy 5 keep one and throw away the other 4.
After meeting a chief economist he told me the figures, I never believed him so I researched the spending and he was on the money ?
So I was thinking since you guys have way to much of everything can someone give me their Corvette before you chuck it for another one.Stewy

I was shocked to really read and add up the spending. Your country is a magnitude of frantic buying. Maybe a few years in negative surplus might stop a bit of silly spending.
In Australia we don't really go without much, per capita it's nothing on you guys. The U.S credit card debt must be enormous I believe it's around 60 billion and paying enormous interest on that.
I hope the children are taught to manage their debt more responsible. We have huge credit card debt here, I just put it down to instant gratification. Nobody seems to no how to save to later buy. It's, I want it now ! I'll use the plastic card.Stewy

No not really it is more like i earn $1000 the feds take 28% the state takes 8% local takes 10% sales tax takes 8.5%. then they give most of that to people who TAKE what they can and then some. As far as having a covette for nothing you will have to become one of those people and save your handouts and then buy one. Simple 12 000 000 illegals can't be wrong.- Top

Stewart, we can thank the marketing people in our country and the media for making us a society of conspicuous consumers. Americans (many, not all) are consumed with possessions. Advertising has told us for years we have not made it unless we own a certain product, live in a certain type home and wear certain clothes. The media hypes the antics of spoiled rich people who some crave to aspire to. Me, I worked in the casino hospitality industry in Nevada for 20+ years, I have seen people squander fortunes trying to impress others or fill voids in their own lives. Based on my experiences, I own all my stuff, no payments. I have cash in the bank and don't wear name clothes or drive a new car every year. I have never owned a pair of $150 tennis shoes and don't plan on it. Somewhere the "American Dream" took a sharp turn and got very twisted. While others panic and try to salvage their finances, I continue to enjoy my somewhat humble lifestyle... Oh, yeah, my wife and son are in Paris this week, vacation paid for in advance, in cash, no credit. Paid from interest on savings.- Top

Unfortunately, we have become the "we want it NOW" society. We live close to a lake and it amazes me with the number of new trucks pulling these new pleasure boats by these 25-30 years olds!! You know they are in hock up to their eyeballs.- Top

A credit card used wisely can earn youa fortune. When GMAC came out with their rebate program we began charging everything that we needed from root canal to living room furniture. The key is to pay the bill on time every month. After 6 years we had over 6K towards our 97 Suburban. After that year GMAC reduced the rebate to 5% and we still do the same. I hope Government Motors will honor the program- Top

Advertises are pretty good at creating the want. Mr Lander your on the money with that.
Although you must have a heap of cash in the bank for interest to pay for the Paris trip. 180 day term deposit is running around 1.7% For a 15k trip that's around a million bucks invested for one year after tax. You have tooooo much money in the bank.- Top
