    63-67 Horn Relays.

I know the 824 Horn relay was used from 63 to 65 and the 837 was used in 66 and 67....what I really need to know is.... is there any FUNCTIONAL difference at all between the two? Will the 824 fit my 66 engine wiring harness and will it fit and function OK? Thanks for the help....

    Rick.

Look at the grounding, the 63-65 version grounds via the mounting and I believe at least one of the successor versions grounds via the harness

Rick, My horns quit working a couple weeks ago on my 67 so yesterday I took off the relay to see if that may be the problem and lo and behold it was a 824 instead of the 837. I don't know if that was the problem or not but I probably will wait until Bloomington to get a 837. I need to check the archives to see how to test it. The 824 has been on the car since I got it in 2006 and the horns (restored) worked fine until last week so I would assume a 824 would work unless of course you're getting it judged. Hopefully someone that knows for sure will post. Shooter

Rick - I expect the 824 and 837 are the same internally and should work in either application (and they apparently can as Shooter indicated). The difference is in the wiring harness plug into the spades on the underside of the relay. The wiring harness connection plug to the 824 has the 2 wires in an "L" configured plug while the wiring harness connection to the 837 has the 2 wires in individual plugs and the one spade is smooth and the other spade has a tang so the wiring harness wires are attached correctly. So from what I can tell, you can interchange them but you'll need to make sure the wiring is attached correctly. Pete

Rick - I should have added to my reply that both of those relays along with functional replacements are around and I'd recommend finding the appropriate relay for your application. You might contact John Pirkle for the appropriate relay for your application. Pete
