    63 SWC powerglide, p/s,p/b 250hp

Just inspected a 63 SWC with powerglide. White/red car. In driving it the shift from low to high has a 'clunk'. Tried to see if it was play in rear, but when shifting from forward to reverse there seemed to be no play or clunk at all.
Not familiar with a p/g, is this normal for the shift? Shifted almost immediately into drive when starting out.

The car was a 39,000+ mileage car, very nice and correct with all original sales invoice, window sticker, etc. Judged in Michigan in 2002, 98.2. Painted once some time ago, but not jambs. To be perfect it needs touch up or repaint, some chips, stress cracks around headights, corners. Should that be done again without doing jambs as they are totally original, even with an oil change sticker from 1975 showing 23,000+ miles. Any advice on that?

Under front valence behind bumpers in areas there is minimal or no paint, should that be left if repainted?

Car is very clean and untouched. Should one leave it in that condition or does it hurt to do minor restoration on frame for paint etc.? I can still see crayon marks for shims in some areas. Maybe just clean it up and leave them all original? Original interior, carpet, etc.

Owner is asking $55,000. Does that seem right for this car?

    thanks for your advice.

Powerglde transmissions do shift a rough compaired to todays cars. You do get a little bang as it shifts. It's more noticable under hard acceleration.
If the car is very original before correcting anything you should have it checked out at an NCRS event. It's only original once and changing, cleaning, painting, may actually take some value from the car.
The price seems a little high but not totally out of line for a powerglide 250 hp with documantation.

You may be having a problem with the vacuum feed to the trans modulator or the modulator itself, either issue will create quite a "bang" on upshift.
