    1966 A.I.R. question 327 engine

i have a orig and complete running air system on my 66 coupe and i just rebuilt the carb on it,i installed what i beleive was the correct gasket under the carb. After running the car a few miles it started to run poorly at idel and acc.,i found that when i took off the vacum hose to the dist i had exhaust comming thru this.i took off the carb and installed a reg. holley gasket on top of the gasket i installed to block off the exhaust gas.car runs fine now idels better it runs great warm and hot.question is this exhaust that runs under the carb i take it it is a special intake for this air setup,i am thinking this gasket will not last long under the carb.

    Thanks Mark

You don't mention what engine you have, but in '66 the 300 hp used a stainless baffle under the carb to keep the exhaust gas from eating into the bottom of the carb. Look at UPC 6 sheet C2 in your assembly manual. It sounds like you are missing a part. This is irrelevant to std or AIR configuration, both used the same setup.

Mark, If you have an pictures of your A.I.R system, I would like to see them. There are some very different parts on A.I.R. cars. Dale
