    Seat Locking Mechanism On 1970

MY PASSENGER SIDE SEAT THE LOCKING MECHANISM IS NOT WORKING. I TOOK OFF THE SEAT BACK AND THE ROD/STRAP ARE INTACT THERE IS A RECTANGULAR WHOLE AT THE TOP. THE BUTTON AT THE TOP LOOKS LIKE IT GOING IN AND OUT. AM I OVERLOOKING SOMETHING? HAS ANYONE HAD THIS PROBLEM BEFORE? DO I NEED TO PULL THE HOLE MECHANISM OUT TO CHECK IT?

You are asking about the seat back latching mechanism, right??

Do you have washers under the seat back stops -- the threaded adjustment under the rubber bumpers? Did you recently replace the rubber bumpers?

If the threaded adjustment is set too high, if the rubber bumpers are new, or if you have installed washers under the bumper adjustment to raise the seat back to a more vertical position -- in ANY of those cases you have to raise the bottom of the latching mechanism so that the device will latch. It sounds like yours is not latching.

The little tobacco pouch bag has washers and plates to adjust all this. The plates go under the center latching mechanism.

You can try raising the latching mechanism or lower the seat back bumpers. Raise the bridge or lower the water -- your choice.

I'm glad it worked for you. I am also glad you didn't ask how I learned this -- all I will tell you is it was the hard way.
