    Judging 56/57 questions

I need some technical questions answered regarding my early 57 corvette. I have had it judged at two regionals and now plan to go to a national meet and I am trying to pick off some of the small items I have been docked on so far.

    1. I have two holes in the left inner fender where the washer bag was mounted. I do not have the washer option and one hole is used for a bracket for the wire harness and the other is empty. Should the one hole be empty or not there?

    2. I was told that my bell housing should be painted. Is this true for the automatic? My housing and tranny are painted cast iron color.

    3. I have dual 4 carbs with an alum intake. I have the cast iron thermo housing 3705018. What color should it be?

    4. On the heater control lever on the firewall area. Should there be a clip on the arm to hold the cable from coming off or does the cable just slip over the arm?

Thanks for all of your help and expertise. I really do enjoy the judging process and look forward to seeing everyone in San Jose.

    Re: Judging 56/57 questions

    Craig,
Here are my thoughts and I am not an expert by any means.

    1. not sure as I have a washer setup in mine.
    2. My car is an automatic also and I was told the trans should be all black.
    3. The cast iron 018 thermostat housings are painted silver like aluminum.
    4. I believe there is a round push-on clip.

Hope this helps. I know some of the other responses will help me.

      1) not sure but guess it ought to be filled in. 2) definitly black(semi-gloss is my preference).3 i believe the cast iron housing ought to be cad plated. Dave Cardina does an excellent job on these. 4) no cable retainer. mike

        Re: Judging 56/57 questions

Thanks for the replies, I hope some other guys jump in here with some more comments. I agree that the hole for the washer bracket should most likely be filled and was not likely drilled with the other hole at the factory. The silver cast iron temp housing is most likely cad or silver, so I will go that route. Regarding the Auto Transmission, I am not sure. The judging manual says it is cast iron as they do the standard tranmission, but unlike the standard tranny, they do not call out for it to be painted black. Regarding the clip on the heater arm, at one regional I got docked for not having it and at the other they said it should not have one. The jury is still out on this one.

Thanks Bruce and Mike for your comments
