Re: 65 foil valve cover decal
If you are talking about the HP decal on aluminum valve covers, it was originally a water release decal, the foil ones are Bogus ReproductionsBill Clupper #618- Top

Re: 65 foil valve cover decal
I've owned known history originals since the late 60's and the originals were all water-transfer decals, again if we are talking about aluminum smallblock valve covers. The foil ones came out as reproductions in the late 70's as sourcing for the old style decals was a problem for a time.Bill Clupper #618- Top

Re: 65 foil valve cover decal
HI Jerry, You are outnumbered here. Only the fake decals are the thick mylar type. Real deal 65 FI, etc are the water soluable kind.
Story: My 63, the LWC was judged at Seven Springs. One of the posters to your nice question hit me on the passenger side VC as I had a fake decal made. The drivers side had a water job. Sometimes when you put those antique water soluable decals in water they just all shrifle up. So I got a one point hit.
More proof. Although typically the original WS decals are long gone by now once in a while when we get VC's in for refinishing you will see remnants of the WS decals.
Another story about the guy who dinged me above. One time the good MD was campaigning his 61 BB car. He had an original AC on it. Well old JD supplied him with a nice new 7.00 repro Thick shiney decal and the boys hit Doc with a deduct. He wasn't too happy. Blamed it on me. Then he paid me back at SS.- Top

Re: 65 foil valve cover decal
Back in the day ('65) a guy I knew bought a new '65 FI and decided he wanted to chrome everything under the hood---but it was too expensive so I loaned him my Happich Semi-Chrome and we polished VC's and FI unit by hand. When we did the VC's we removed the WS decals with alot of hot water because we did not want to scratch the al.

Years later, a friend pulled the print for tha 360 HP decal for 63. It was indeed described as a decal on the print.- Top
