    Ups and missing part

I know this board is not to be used as a shopping site but I am now looking for a set of 1968 (1st) generation female hood latches because of UPS delivery procedures, and I hope that others may learn from my loss. I sent my latches out for refinishing and they were returned via UPS on the 26th of May. They were delivered at 3:33 PM with no receipt signature required and placed on my door step. They were picked up sometime after the delivery, unfortunately not by me as I was not at home at that time. I will now be more active in the shipping process of my parts.

Being a UPS employee it would be nice to not put UPS in with your lost package. They did deliver it to your door step as you asked. How about change the title to Front door step and missing part. We get enough bad press without this being our fault. Your plater should have sent this signature required. Sorry for your loss. Heck UPS smashed one of my 61 radio's years ago and did nothing about it. Don't get me wrong sometimes it is our fault.

    Cheers,
    Craig

With important deliveries, especially for "irreplaceable" items, I ALWAYS use UPS tracking, determine the exact day the package will be delivered, and make arrangements for package security in the event I can't be there when the package is delivered.

I do not use UPS because they have a lousy record on packages. They don't even pay you back even when you have insurance.

I've had this happen to me also. The package was delivered, not to my front dorstep, but to a house a few streets over that had a similar spelling as my street. Luckily the person that got it knew me and brought it to me. Maybe you have had the same thing happen to you.

To Craig, I am sorry that I was somewhat accusatory of UPS for delivering to a door step, but it is risky business for them to leave a package on a stoop in any case. It is also certainly true; all parties share in the liability here (i.e. shipper and me). Here is the kicker to this story, I came home from class tonight and the part was on my desk. A neighbor found it on their door step and brought it to my wife. Now, I am not going to slam UPS for not reading the house numbers correctly because I am just elated I got my hinges back. I really own an apology to all those, in my mind, I accused of taking the darn things off my porch. Still a good lesson learned.

Last year I custom built a 66 BB diff, it came out fantastic, better then any exchange deal, shipped it DHL. It got to the DHL warehouse and disappeared! They spent a month looking for it and it's still missing. It was in a wood crate with no corvette markings on it, 130 lbs. At least yours got on a truck and to the address, not that it helps much. I now use Fedex and require a signature on everything.

I ship 90% of my orders UPS. They come to the house once or twice a day. The majority of their stops do not require a signature.I don't like the sign for stuff cause that means I have to baby sit the shop waiting for a package. I have no problems what so ever. When it's a big ticket item though I watch the package delivery schedule on line. JD

Gary, I had a pair of seat belts for the 67 disappear about 2 years ago when shipped by UPS. I bought the set off a seller on Ebay (1100 positive 100% feedback). He said he had NEVER lost anything shipping UPS. As luck would have it he shipped out mine and another set the same day and they BOTH got lost. Luckily he always added insurance in shipping so I got my money back. I spoke with him last year and at that time they were still missing.
