    Hi Terry

Oil: A diesel-rated oil - just look for API specification CI-4 (best) or CJ-4 (just fine) as the first/primary API category

Antifreeze: HOAT (Hybrid Organic Acid Technology) type, such as Zerex G-05.

There are volumes on these topics on the TDB, and for oil, an authoritative article in the Summer 2008 issue of The Restorer.

    Good luck and happy driving!

    Louis

Thanks Louis. I don't often start rebuilt engines that have been sitting for quite awhile. I did not know if I should add any additives to first start ups.

        Terry,

Hopefully, some of them will chime in as well.

Thanks again. I have 55gal drums of Rotella T in my shop, we use it in my diesel bucket trucks and to Maintain Large diesel Generators with it. Never thought to use it in an old Corvette. Makes it easy! Thanks again !!!

          Car sounds Good! THANKS

            Terry:

Turn the engine by hand to make sure that it's free. It should be, especially if it's been stored inside. Your engine builder should have used generous amounts of assembly lube and motor oil and such (we have used STP before), and all of that stuff should still be in there. It's used to prevent scratching of the wear surfaces during assembly and also provides a little extra lubrication during initial start up. You can use EOS or other additiives if you wish but just make sure your oil pump is primed. I usually take the valve covers off and run the oil up to the heads.

Louis has told you about the past posts regarding cam run in and seating the rings.

One other thing, I've found it to be a two man job. I've never had the pleasure of starting one up. I'm always under the hood making adjustments and checking for leaks.

            Paul
