1962 air cleaner base

I have some questions about there being two different bases, the tanged carb base for WCFB and a seperate one without an alignment tang for the AFB. For years I have tried to find a tanged base for my 62 AFB and none will fit. The judges say that my reproduction should have a tang, I say there must be two styles. There is no way a tanged air cleaner base will fit an AFB.

Aha! This explains much. I screwed around with this for months before I gave up. I thought I was doing something wrong. Or, that the base I found was screwed up.

I have noticed that some bases have the tabs, and some do not. And the ones that do not have the tab do not appear to have had them cut out.

I have an original air cleaner base with the correct base locators that fits my '62 340 with AFB perfectly.

Suggest you contact Richard Fortier, the former owner of Paragon Reproductions @ 810-750-1472. I know he can do a beautiful job of silk screening an original base if you need that and last time I spoke with him he said he was going to reproduce these bases as original. He may even have an original for sale. I'd definitely give it a try.
