    63 Starter Anomoly

My E64 300/327 4sp built Nov 63 has a starter part #1107242 2G2 which should represent July 2 1962. Using the 6 month window rule, the earliest date for correct use on my car would be June 63. So it must be a replacement sometime in its life. But what I can't figure out is the part # stamped in the solenoid. 1119910. The 3rd and 5th edition JG state that very early starter solenoid # is 1119919. Any clue to what this stamping is all about?

Stamping is the PN of the solenoid. The '9910 version is rather rare since it was used '62-63 only while the '9919 version dates back to '57...

Jim, As Jack mentioned the 9910 is correct for the 63's. My Feb-Mar 63 has a black 9910. See the archives here for some nice 242 starter pics showing the starter and solenoid painted semi-flat/gloss black. New term to descibe proper shade of paint as I don't have a clue anymore. Keep the 9910 as they are hard to find. JD

        Jim,

Given the solenoid and its rarity, I'd suspect it's original.
Many cars have "one" part that is outside the 6 month rule. I would not replace it or the starter if it were me.

Thanks for the info. and reasurance guys. I was hoping to continue to use it since it works fine. It is painted all black with some blue under coating showing through here and there. Is that common? Looks like its never been apart either, although I think its time. Due for a good cleaning and repaint. I will post some pics tomorrow to see what you think.

I cannot tell you a thing about midyears, but if I saw that blue on a C3 starter I would suspect a rebuild -- or, at the minimum, Bubba with a spray can. But then maybe you mid-year guys had/have something else going on with your starters.

That's kinda what I got here, even see the blue on the inside when I shine a light in the gear area. Also a strange shape broken piece of metal fell out when I turned it on end. It was working however, with no issues. Any ideas where that came from?
