You are quite right about old tires. One easily forgets how old they are on our low mileage Vettes. Time slips away from you. The tires I had were only about 6 years old, but were an off brand that really looked great. My original U.S. Royal tires (still have the original spare in the carrier) were dangerous from the word GO. That didn't stop me from making a top speed run on them in Nevada in 1963 (6300 rpm in top gear w/a 3.36 rear). That's called young and foolish.
