Re: 1972 Luggage Rack
if your car had one installed and it is rusty -
I would STRONGLY suggest having it rechromed.
The holes are drilled for each rack as they were installed at the dealership.
A new rack from any of the Vette vendors would very likely NOT line up correctly.
If your car has never had a rack, then vendors such as Corvette Central, Paragon, Doc Rebuild etc., would have suitable racks.
The ones used way back where chromed steel, they also sell stainless racks too. Be sure to only get a 6 hole rack, the 8 hole would be incorrect for your car.- Top

Re: 1972 Luggage Rack
Martin,
I have an original GM dealer/factory installed rack.
It came off a 72 parts car, and I know it was never messed with since it was a new car.
It is a 5-6 of 10 in chrome condition, but all metal is 100% structurally intact.
If you want it, you can have the rack. Jut pay for the shipping costs.
Would probably run around 35$ or so to UPS it.- Top

Re: 1972 Luggage Rack
I installed a GM purchased luggage rack on my 70 in 1975 for trips from Dallas to San Diego and from San Diego to the east coast. All road trips in 1975. It served its purpose and still on my 70 coupe.
Have not used it much since 1975. Since my car is coupe I did later remove the rear window storage tray (only two bolts removed) which permitted some more storage room for stuff on trips.
The rear window does not have to have the factory storage tray to be safely stored with stuff on a trip if I want to remove the rear window.
If I thought I could of been 100% successful I would of removed the luggage rack and repaired the rear deck in 1990 when I stripped and repainted.- Top

I knew that you knew that. I was just being feisty and asking a rhetorical question.- Top
