I took the '58 out (270hp) on it's maiden voyage to get it inspected today and almost didn't make it home. First I noticed it was stalling about 2800 rpm so I pushed down on the go pedal and got it through the stall by kicking in the second carb. So I ended up making it to the inspection shop about 4 miles from the house. On the way back it stalled in the parking lot so I popped the hood to check the for fuel in the fuel filter and it was full. I got back in and it started right up so I started heading down the road. Again it started stalling only now at about 2200 rpm and kept trying to die. I stepped on the go pedal to kick in the seconday but then it started to die out no matter what I did. I kept peddaling the gas (almost like I was driving a pedal car) and barely made it home. It starts and idles fine in the driveway.
The fuel pump was just rebuilt. Does this sound like a fuel pump problem? Any good rebuilders out there for original fuel pumps? Any other thoughts?
Thanks,
Ted
